PTSA
FAQs

I’ve heard of PTO and PTA…What exactly is the Meadowlark PTSA, and why should I care?

Think of us as the fairy godparents of Meadowlark—we sprinkle a little “extra” everywhere!

PTSA supports assemblies that inspire, field trips that wow, teacher support that matters, and tech upgrades that make learning exciting. Every dollar and every volunteer helps all our kids, teachers, and families shine.

PTO is a parent organization a bit like PTA, but not overseen by a national nonprofit. We are actually part of PTA and because we work with Student Council as one of our guiding voices- we add the S. The PTSA is a Parent, Teacher, Student Association that is comprised of families, students, grandparents, teachers, school administrators, and local business and community leaders devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools. Our PTSA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

Membership in our PTSA is open to anyone who wants to be involved and make a difference for the education, health, and welfare of children and youth. Paid membership means you get to vote on activities and fund allocation and hold board or chair positions.

Paid membership is NOT required to volunteer or participate in activities put on by Meadowlark PTSA.

Everyone is welcome!

Do I have to volunteer if I join or donate?

Nope! Joining PTSA doesn’t mean we hand you a clipboard and put you in charge of a bake sale. Your membership alone makes a big difference. And if you do want to pitch in, we’ve got bite‑sized ways to help—no endless meetings required. But if you ARE offering to help in any capacity, we never say no! The reality is, we understand that how busy families are.

How do you raise money and where does it all go?

Currently, we have a three main fundraisers at Meadowlark. Each year we engage community sponsors, in Fall we are launching our first ever Fun Run, and Spring we are holding our Bridge the Gap, direct donation fundraiser. Sprinkle in community events, spirit wear, and boom! We would love to move to a single Fun Run fundraiser + Sponsors with time and allow Spring to be solely a community event instead.

Every penny stays right here, powering Meadowlark magic.

We sort of think about Meadowlark PTSA as the stewards of you donations. We try and create the biggest impact for the most students we can with every single dollar. We rely on input from families, staff, teachers, and students to make our decisions when allocating funds. You are always welcome to become a member to vote for allocations that mean the most to you! Volunteer hours and Free Money programs help PTSA to fund all of our direct operating costs (boring stuff like office supplies, taxe prep, computer programs, licenses, and other business necessities.)

Your donations & sponsorships, impact Meadowlark directly! We’re talking new STEM tools, 3D printers, projectors, and upgrading learning equipment that’s almost a decade old. Donations fund field trips, assemblies, provide Student Council funds, school‑wide shirts (950+!), cultural events, feed the teachers during conferences (almost 12 hour days), and even student‑led fun like Movie Night and the New Fun Run.

If it makes school exciting, engaging, or unforgettable—we’re on it.

I’m so busy—how can I still support without getting roped in?

We get it—your calendar’s packed, your to-do list is long, and the last thing you need is a surprise volunteer assignment. But good news: just joining PTSA is a powerful way to support our school. Want to do more? You can donate supplies, give when it works for you, or offer a special skill—photography, tech help, even writing thank-you notes. If you do come to a meeting, we promise not to hand you a clipboard (unless you ask for one). Come for the updates, stay for the good vibes, and leave knowing you’re part of something amazing!

What happens if Meadowlark PTSA doesn’t raise enough funds or have volunteers?

When PTSA falls short—whether in donations or helping hands—students feel the impact most. Field trips get scaled back, clubs and intramural sports can’t happen, assemblies and guest speakers can’t come, teacher’s don’t have the extra supplies needed for compelling projects, community events are canceled, and teachers aren’t shown appreciation for the dedication and energy the are giving, and many of the “extras” that make school exciting simply can’t happen.

But here’s the thing: every family has the power to change that. Each donation, volunteer hour, and shared idea keeps Meadowlark full of the experiences our kids will remember forever—assemblies that inspire, clubs that spark passions, and tools that make learning fun.

When we all do a little, our kids gain a lot. Together, we can make sure Meadowlark stays the vibrant, opportunity-filled school our students deserve. 💛
